Phone scams prompt police warning

The Espanola Police Service is reminding residents to be cautious as a new phone scam is making the rounds. Homeowners are getting calls from someone claiming to be from the electricity company. They say there is money owned on the account, and if it’s not paid they will shut off power. This is not a business practice used by legitimate utility companies. If you get a call like this, hang up and either call the Espanola Police or the Anti-Fraud Centre.
