Elliot Lake council transfers land to First Nation

In the spirit of reconciliation, Elliot Lake city council voted unanimously to transfer a former MNR property to Serpent River First Nation.

The 4.29 acres of municipal land, known locally as the former MNR worksite, is located on the lake side of Highway 108, just north of the Elliot Lake boat launch and boardwalk.

The property will be transferred to a holding company, and Serpent River will now have to undertake the process of adding that parcel of land to its federally recognized reservation.
