Sudbury MPP pushes for bill declaring Injured Workers Day in Ottawa

The Ontario Federation of Labour says several events were held across Ontario Saturday recognizing injured workers and their allies for the unrecognized Injured Workers’ Day, but a Sudbury MPP is hoping to see that change.

Jamie West, the MPP for Sudbury and the Opposition Critic for Labour says he is pleased his injured workers’ bill passed Second Reading last Thursday.

He says he is advocating for June 1st to be officially proclaimed as the annual Injured Workers Day in Ontario because they feel invisible, and the bill would ensure they are recognized by government.

Over 100 people rallied at Queen’s Park as well as London, Windsor, and Thunder Bay.

At the end of April, the federation launched its Injured Workers’ Bill of Rights, an initiative to promote injured workers’ demands among all workers in Ontario and fully support West’s bill in recognizing injured workers.
