East Algoma OPP lays multiple weapon charges

A Serpent River First Nation man is facing several charges following several weapons complaints.

East Algoma OPP Constable Phil Young says last Friday evening, the OPP and First Nation Police Service responded to multiple weapons complaints on Gaaming Road and on Highway 17 in Serpent River First Nation.

He says police believed an individual was in possession of taser and a handgun locating, them in a shed at a residence on Highway 17.

He says the investigation deemed the handgun to be a replica pellet handgun.

Young says the 27-year-old from Serpent River First Nation was arrested and charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of careless use of a firearm, unauthorized possession, and knowledge of possession of an unauthorized weapon.

He adds the accused appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Video Bail in Blind River on Saturday and was remanded into custody.
