More local teacher union strikes ahead

Schools in all three districts: Algoma, Manitoulin, and Sudbury will be affected by upcoming one-day strikes by various teachers’ unions.

The latest one-day walkout will be tomorrow for the Algoma District School Board elementary schools.

Board spokesperson, Fran Walsh, says all elementary schools in the district will be closed tomorrow due to the one-day strike by members of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario.

Rainbow District School Board spokesperson, Nicole Charette, says all the elementary schools in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts will be closed next Tuesday and Thursday.

And, the Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association has announced it is planning a second one-day, province-wide walkout next Tuesday as well.

The main issues in the break-down in talks with the Ontario government centers around wage increases, class sizes, and e-learning concerns.

No new talks with the government are planned for the near future
