It’s Back To The Drawing Board … Again For Espanola Fire Hall

Espanola council wants to go back to square one when looking at the design of a new fire hall for the town.
At tonight’s committee of the whole meeting, Councillor Bill Foster, suggested that Fire Chief Mike Pichor come back with a layout for an 8,000 square foot pre-fabricated building.
Foster added he believes thousands of dollars could be saved by going the pre-fab route.
The new layout would also include Public Work offices and sharing common areas, such as washrooms.
Council had an in-depth discussion about the footprint and how much space it would require.
Councillor Ron Duplessis also talked about his satisfaction with the new Mindemoya Fire Hall, which is a pre-engineered building.
The last engineering study suggested a two-storey building, but Foster says there is too much wasted space, including stairways, elevator and common areas.
Councillors agreed and Pichor is expected to re-activate his committee and come back to the committee with a redesigned grid layout for a new fire hall.
Pichor did express some concerns delays, but council said he can report back to them as soon as he has the information and they can decide to move ahead from there.
