Elliot Lake city council has agreed to fill a vacancy on council by appointment, but not before calling Mayor Dan Marchisella to the carpet.
Councillor Tammy Van Roon said she was quite alarmed to see details about the vacant seat in the press and asked Mayor Marchisella explain himself clarifying some comments made to the media.
Marchisella told media that the position would be filled by appointment and an individual had already agreed to step forward to fill a vacancy left by the resignation of Councillor Connie Nykyforak, which also took place last week.
However, Van Roon pointed out council had not met to make a decision to hold a by-election or make an appointment.
Marchisella agreed he had conducted an informal poll with council and moved ahead with filling the vacancy before the formalities were in place.
In the end, council agreed to fill the position by appointment with Sandy Finamore who will be sworn in as a councillor in April.
