The Sudbury District Health Unit is warning about the potential dangers of West Nile Virus, now that summer is here. The SDHU says the virus has been confirmed in the area, as birds, mosquitos, and even humans have had it in the past few years. Mosquitos get the virus by feeding on infected birds, and then spread it to humans through a bite.
Twenty per cent of people who get West Vile have symptoms, which include fever, headache, nausea, and rashes. To stay safe, the health unit says to change or remove standing water around your home at least once a week. If you’re outside, use bug spray, wear long sleeves, and try to stay inside between dusk and dawn.
