Highway 17 is getting a new set of traffic lights this summer. They will be for drivers coming from the west on the Trans-Canada Highway. They’ll be at 17 and Municipal Road Four in Whitefish. This is something road planners usually avoid, but the lights are being called the safest option to handle the multiple ore trucks now going through the area. The trucks are going to Vale’s Totten Mine and the new Victoria Mine.
The lights will be located near where the four-lane road turns into two-lanes. The cost will be split between Sudbury and the province, and construction is set to begin in August.
