Elliot Lake is practising some preventative medicine. Although there’s no doctors’ shortage in town, the city is embarking on another recruiting drive. Mayor Dan Marchisella says it’s because some of the community’s older doctors will be retiring soon.
Marchisella says Elliot Lake is in regular contact with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine which is a boon for the north. He says most of the students at NOSM want to stay in the north, and the whole idea is to get them interested in the local community.
The mayor says doctors who come to Elliot Lake get housing from Retirement Living for one year.
