Despite the weather, it was a full house on Saturday at the Espanola Elks Hall for the 22nd Annual Paul and Hester Zahorek Seniors’ Appreciation Dinner.
The Zahoreks were devoted volunteers in the community, focusing on children, minor hockey, and Paul was well known for his work with the Espanola Lions Club.
He passed away in 2013, his wife, Hester, in 2015.
The Lions host the free annual dinner every year to acknowledge their contributions as well as those of the seniors in Espanola.
Lions Dario Laurenti, who co-founded the dinner with Paul 22 years ago, as well and former MP Carol Hughes and Espanola Mayor Doug Gervais extended thanks to the some 200 seniors who attended the event.
