Two people charged following shooting in Wikwemikong

Manitoulin OPP says two people have been charged following a shooting on Manitoulin Island.

Constable Berkley Parisien says last Thursday (Nov. 28) the OPP assisted the Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service with a shooting investigation that occurred around Rabbit Island Road and Tomas Lane in Wikwemikong Unceded Territory.

She says because of an altercation, one person sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Parisien says two people were taken into custody with a 26-year-old man from Wikwemikong facing an attempted murder charge, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and possession of an illegal substance.

She adds a 28-year-old woman from Whitefish River First Nation has been charged as an accessory, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon and obstruction.

Parisien says the two have been remanded into custody following a bail hearing on November 29th.
