Several major byways are either closed or have lanes following the snowfall throughout the northeast, which seemed to have caught many motorists unawares.
Several road incidents have been reported by OPP across the North East, including the local area.
Manitoulin OPP had to deal with a four-hour closure of Highway 17 near Nairn last evening, and the main byway was closed from Wawa to Batchawana due to the weather conditions and just reopened this morning.
Highway 540 on Manitoulin Island was also closed in the M’Chigeeng area due to a tractor-trailer stuck on the big hill in that vicinity.
It was finally reopened shortly before midnight.
Police are asking motorists to give themselves some extra time on their commutes and to slow down and adjust to the road conditions.
Up to 2 to 4 centimetres of snow is expected today.
