Espanola says good-bye to former head librarian, welcomes new staffer

Espanola Public Library hosted a gathering yesterday to wish a retiring librarian the best of luck in her retirement and welcome the new head librarian for the service.

Rosemary Rae is retiring after nearly nine years of overseeing operations at the library, so the gathering was an opportunity to thank her for her years of work.

She has over 35 years of experience at different libraries throughout the province and has seen libraries modernize from typewriters and books to audiotape and video, keeping pace with progress.

Rae plans to retire in Elliot Lake.

Laura Luopa was also on hand to meet the public as the new CEO of the service.

Graduating in 2007, she has worked at various libraries throughout the south, but has moved back up north to focus on her career and family.

Luopa says she is looking forward to the challenges ahead, including the hiring of an archive intern to catalogue and organize the history of Espanola, its documents, and memories.

Words of congratulation were extended to both women by Mayor Doug Gervais, Town CAO/Clerk Joseph Burke and chair of the board, Brian Richie.
