A few weeks ago the former Whitefish Lake First Nation ratified a Constitution that reflects its values, traditions, principals and way of life.
It`s the fourth First Nation to ratify such a document in Ontario.
Grand Council Chief Pat Madahebee is now congratulating the First Nation for the accomplishment.
The First Nation, which is just west of Sudbury, now goes by the name Atikameksheng.
Madahbee says a major benefit to having its own Constitution is that the document allows the First Nation to replace government-imposed laws with its own rules.
