Reunion opportunity to share good news

The Friends of the Old Mindemoya School had some good news to share at the 100th Anniversary celebration of the school held this past weekend.

Friends spokesperson Alison McAllister says council held a special meeting to hear a presentation from the group on a funding proposal to retrofit the building as an art centre.

She says council voted unanimously to provide a letter in support of the $750,000 funding application to the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.

McAllister adds the Friends received phase I approval and the proposed centre would create several construction jobs and a further full-time and one part-time job once the project completed.

She adds they hope to see the project approved soon with the entire project taking about three years to complete.

The news gave the reunion a bit of an extra cheerful boost for those who gathered to share their stories of the school and celebrate in its 100th anniversary celebration.
