Legion receive supports from command – also marks 75th Anniversary of Liberation of the Netherlands today

Today was originally meant to be a colourful celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands, but due to COVID-19, it will be a much different affair.

Royal Canadian Legion District H Public Affairs Officer Roy Eaton says with the Legions closed across the
country, the celebrations will take place online.

He says both provincial and national command is helping Legions pay the bills.

Eaton says national command is providing $3-million in assistance while provincial command has returned the annual fees, some $1-million, to the individual Legions.

He says they are hoping to get a response from the federal government on assistance.

Eaton says Legion members will celebrate today by wearing orange and encouraging everyone else to do so as well and to also take in the activities available on the Veterans Affairs Canada site.
