There is a new fire station on Manitoulin Island.
The new Central Manitoulin fire hall on Highway 542 in Mindemoya is centrally located and Fire Chief John Reid says it will make a big difference to the volunteers.
The new build is just over 4,800 square feet, meets the Ontario Building Code 2012 post-disaster building code and features training rooms as well as housing for fire equipment.
It includes a three-bay fire truck capability and was constructed by Sheppard Custom Building Limited.
Reid adds they have both a pumper and tanker with another tanker on the way.
A grand opening is expected to take place in May.
