OHIP Plus issue for 17 year old

A Massey woman on disability whose son needs 30 milligrams of Prozac daily has discovered a flaw with the OHIP Plus program.

The program covers drugs for young people under 25.

However Brenda Skibinky says no one makes Prozac in 30 milligram capsule size.

She has to combine the capsules in 10 and 20 milligrams prescriptions but OHIP will only pay for the larger dosage meaning Skibinsky pays more than 50 dollars a month for the smaller capsules.

Skibinksy was told by the Ministry of Health that a separate program pays for drugs not covered under OHIP Plus.

She’s applied to be reimbursed but says it’s a lengthy process.

However, Skibinsky has encountered another setback as Algoma Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha discovered when he got on the case.

Mantha has told Skibinsky to keep her receipts for the Prozac to see if there’s a way to reimburse her as he continues to work on the matter.
