Espanola council will hear from a long-time developer tonight about a new subdivision for senior and family housing in town.
George Wade had originally looked at developing the Brentwood Village subdivision in the 1980s, but legislation by then Premier Mike Harris killed the project for senior housing.
He says he wants to develop one three-unit townhouse and six four-unit rowhouses in the south end of town.
However, Wade says he has all the paperwork and is at Phase three of the project since much of the groundwork, such as engineering, design and more has already been completed.
To move ahead, he will appear before Espanola council tonight to ask for consent applications to sever seven new lots for the 27 units, and a zoning amendment to move ahead with the construction of a road.
Espanola has a severe shortage of housing, especially for seniors, and Wade believes there is a will to move forward with new builds in town.
Public comment is welcome and the meeting is set for 7:30 pm this evening in council chambers.
