Espanola council is putting in a request to extend the deadline for a possible switch from municipal to Ontario Provincial Police.
Councillor Bill Foster says the delay is needed because it has taken four months to get some crucial numbers from the OPP in the costing, the interim police chief will be gone all of February and there has to be public consultation.
Councillor Robert Yocum believes the OPP will be receptive to the extension.
Council approved a bylaw to ask the OPP for a two month extension to the March 22nd deadline.
No final decision to stay with the Espanola Police Service or go OPP has been made.
