Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Union Gas Limited have applied for approval to amalgamate to form a single gas distribution, transportation and storage company.
The amalgamated utility would serve over 3.5 million natural gas customers in Ontario including many in the Sudbury, Algoma and Manitoulin Districts.
In a press release, the two stated their customers will not pay any costs related to the amalgamation and that if the Ontario Energy Board approves the move customers will receive a total benefit of $410 million over a ten-year period.
The Board will hold a public hearing to consider the application so the public is invited to comment and must apply by December 20th.
