After months of going back and forth, Elliot Lake council has bit the bullet and decided on a primary site for a multi-use facility hub for the city; the Centennial Arena.
The site was short-listed as one of top three, second to the Civic Centre and the site of the former Algo Mall.
However, an adjacent site which had ground contamination, a garage was located there in the past, raised environmental concerns delaying the final decision.
Council has learned a complete environmental assessment is part of the process for applying for funding and that has satisfied Councillor Tammy Van Roon who raised the concerns in the first place.
Council has until January 15th, 2018 to submit its application for funding the multi-million dollar project.
