Espanola Garbage Bylaw Up For Vote Tonight

A contingent of dissenters to a new proposed garbage bylaw is expected to be in attendance at Espanola council tonight.

Council is expected to pass a bylaw enacting a new bylaw, which reduce the number of bags residents can put out every week for pick up.

Residents will have to use clear, not green bags, and reduce bags by four per week to two.

Businesses are not affected by the proposed bylaw, except they are also encouraged to follow recycling guidelines.

The town is trying to reduce waste into the landfill and to have households be more active with the recycling program.

However, there are some residents who plan to disrupt the meeting during the open Question Period because they believe the new requirements will be too difficult for residents to fulfill.

If council passes the bylaw into law, it will come in effect in early November.
