Northern Ontario MPP has Mixed Feelings about the Province’s Ring of Fire Announcement

Plans are underway to build an all-season access road to the Ring of Fire.

The province announced today it is working with the Webequi, Marten Falls and Nibinamik First Nations communities to build all-season access roads to the Ring of Fire project as well as connect those communities to the main highway routes. The province says environmental assessments for the project should be complete by January and construction should start in 2019.

Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the province has made similar announcements before.

Bisson says the construction is planned to take place after the next provincial election, so this could be an election boosting announcement.

Funding for these roads is part of the province’s commitment to invest $1-billion in Ring of Fire infrastructure to create jobs and provide long-term benefits to the region.
